In light of the recent tragic events in Kwahu-Bepong, the Kwahu South Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has taken decisive action to ensure the safety of the community. The unfortunate shooting incident on Sunday, February 4, resulted in the loss of two lives and left several others injured. As a result, MUSEC has ordered the closure of all schools in the area as a precautionary measure.
According to reports, the two individuals lost their lives due to stray bullets fired by the police during a confrontation with a crowd in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region. This has understandably caused a significant level of distress and tension within the community. In response, the police have made 25 arrests and have increased their presence in the town to maintain order.
Emmanuel Ofori Attah, the Kwahu South Municipal Chief Executive, has emphasized the importance of safeguarding the well-being of school-going children by temporarily closing down all schools in the area. He stated, "The incident happened yesterday [Sunday] and it won’t be advisable for children to go to school. The basic school students won’t be going to school including the Day students at the Senior High. However, those in the boarding house will remain on campus till the case is settled."
Furthermore, MUSEC is actively working to address the underlying issues that have led to this unfortunate incident. The Chief Executive expressed his commitment to finding lasting solutions to the disturbance and tension in the community.
In response to the incident, a victim who sustained gunshot wounds shared her harrowing experience, highlighting the need for greater caution and professionalism in handling such situations. She urged residents to comply with police instructions during emergencies and called on the police to prioritize professional conduct and explore alternative crowd control methods to minimize harm.
