The recent interception of a significant consignment of Ghanaian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis sativa, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria is a testament to the agency's commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse.
According to a statement released by the NDLEA, a total of 14,524.8 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud was seized from two trucks and a J5 bus intercepted at the Ojuelegba area in Lagos during the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024.
During the operation, two drivers managed to escape from their moving vehicles, while a third driver, identified as 66-year-old Nasiru Ojomu, was apprehended. Ojomu is reported to be associated with the wanted Akala, Mushin-based drug baron, Suleiman Jimoh, also known as Olowo Idi Ogede or Temo. Temo has been linked to multiple shipments of the same psychoactive substance seized by NDLEA operatives over the past three years.
The NDLEA's swift action in intercepting this large consignment underscores its dedication to both drug supply reduction and demand reduction. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the efforts of officers and men across various commands and urged them to remain vigilant in their pursuit of curbing drug-related activities.
This latest seizure serves as a strong message that the NDLEA remains resolute in its mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs and protect the well-being of its citizens. The agency's unwavering determination and proactive measures are crucial in safeguarding the nation against the detrimental effects of drug trafficking and abuse.
