The trial of Richard Appiah, the accused draughtsman in the case of the killing of two minors and storing their bodies in a refrigerator at Abesim near Sunyani, is set to commence on March 14, 2024. Appiah, who is also known to be a footballer, had previously pleaded not guilty before the High Court in Accra.

The charges against Appiah include the alleged murder of two minors, namely Louis Agyemang, 12, and Stephen Sarpong, 15. The trial date was fixed by Justice Ruby Aryeetey after the conclusion of the Case Management Conference (CMC) on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

During the CMC, Nana Ama Adinkra, a Senior State Attorney, outlined the prosecution's reliance on various documents and evidence. These include investigation caution statements of the accused, autopsy reports of the deceased minors, photographs of the crime scene and evidence from witnesses.

The prosecution also disclosed that they will be relying on written statements given at the police station, as well as witness statements from individuals involved in the case. Additionally, they sought leave to file an additional witness statement from Thomas Agyei, the father of one of the deceased minors.

In response, Faustinus Yirilabuo, the lawyer for the accused, confirmed receipt of the disclosures as indicated by the prosecution.

As a result, Justice Ruby Aryeetey has scheduled March 14, 2024, for the commencement of the trial and directed the prosecution to call their first witness. It is important to note that the accused will be facing a jury trial.

The upcoming trial is expected to shed light on the tragic events that occurred and provide an opportunity for justice to be served in this case. The legal proceedings will be closely monitored as the case continues to unfold.
