We have received distressing news regarding the alleged detention of four Ghanaian nationals at Istanbul Airport. According to reports, these individuals have been held by Turkish officials since Wednesday, February 28, 2024, without any explanation provided for their detention.

It is deeply concerning to learn that the detainees have been confined to a small room and allegedly denied access to food and water for the past four days. Mr. Emmanuel Quansah, a relative of one of the detainees, has brought attention to the dire situation, expressing urgent concern for the well-being of the individuals.

In a statement to The Ghanaian Standard news, Mr. Quansah revealed the harrowing circumstances faced by the detained Ghanaians, emphasizing that one of them is reportedly on the verge of passing away due to starvation.

At this critical juncture, it is imperative for the Ghana Embassy in Turkey and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to swiftly intervene and address the situation. The affected Ghanaians are issuing a distress call, seeking prompt assistance to secure their release from detention.

We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of these individuals. Our thoughts are with the detained Ghanaians and their families during this challenging time. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they become available.
