We are deeply concerned by the recent incident involving a yet-to-be-identified man who sustained gunshot wounds in an alleged attack by the Tema police night patrol team. The incident, which took place on Friday, February 23, 2024, in Kpone within the Tema region, falls under the jurisdiction of the Ghana Police Service.

According to reports, the victim was shot in the shoulder through the rear of his car. He has recounted that the police chased his vehicle without apparent reason around 11:30 pm to midnight while he was heading home. The victim described a harrowing experience, stating that his car got stuck on a heap of soil and as he attempted to remove it, he noticed a vehicle approaching at high speed. Despite managing to move his car, he was met with gunfire, which he believes was unjustified.

The victim expressed his fear for his life and stated that he initially thought the assailants were armed robbers. It was later revealed that they were police officers from the Tema regional office on night patrol duties. The victim emphasized that the officers have not provided a satisfactory explanation for their actions and expressed frustration at the lack of transparency in the investigation.

Furthermore, the victim has raised concerns about potential cover-ups and machinations against him. He has alleged that despite his near-death experience, the police are not forthcoming with the investigation to hold those responsible accountable.

In addition, the victim has highlighted that he was out with a friend at a spot for a drink and had picked up a stranger who later fled his car over a disagreement about money. He has claimed that he has been denied access to his car and its contents since the incident occurred.

This incident raises serious questions about police conduct and accountability. It is crucial for a thorough and transparent investigation to take place in order to address the victim's concerns and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. We urge the relevant authorities to prioritize this matter and provide the necessary support to the victim during this challenging time.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we hope for a swift and just resolution to this distressing incident.
