We are deeply saddened by the passing of John Kumah, the late deputy Finance Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. There have been circulating reports in sections of mainstream media and social media suggesting that his death was due to food poisoning. However, his widow, Apostle Lilian Kumah, has come forward to clarify that her husband did not die from food poisoning, but rather from a severe illness that he had been battling for over a year.

In an interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah revealed that her late husband had been bravely fighting a terminal disease for nearly a year, as diagnosed by his doctors in Germany. She expressed her dismay at the speculation surrounding the cause of his death and urged the public to refrain from making unfounded claims, as it only serves to compound the pain of her family and the larger Kumah family.

Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, who is also the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, called for swift police action against individuals, such as Blessed Godsbrain Smart (Captain Smart), who have publicly alleged that her late husband was poisoned without providing any evidence to support such claims. She emphasized the need for accountability and justice in the face of baseless accusations that only serve to further distress the grieving family.

Setting the record straight, Mrs. Kumah disclosed that John Kumah was diagnosed with a blood-related disease in August 2023 during a medical check-up in Germany. Throughout his medical journey in both Germany and Ghana, there was never any mention of poisoning by any of the medical professionals involved in his care. She emphasized her husband's resilience and determination in the face of his illness, highlighting his unwavering commitment to fulfilling his duties despite the pain he endured.

The circumstances surrounding John Kumah's passing were further detailed, with his wife recounting the events leading up to his death at the Suhum government hospital. Despite efforts to stabilize him for onward transportation to Accra and eventually Germany for continued treatment, he tragically succumbed to his illness.

As we mourn the loss of John Kumah, let us honor his memory by respecting the wishes of his family and refraining from spreading unverified information. Our thoughts and condolences are with Apostle Lilian Kumah, their family, and all those affected by this profound loss.
