We are deeply saddened to report the tragic incident that occurred in Asuaba near Adeiso in the Eastern Region, resulting in the loss of one member of the Okyeman Environmental Protection Taskforce, Offei Noah, and the injury of three other members, Maxwell Kyei, Richmond Talata, and Kwame Amoah.

The taskforce, unarmed and returning from providing security for a 2500 acre Oil Plantation company in Adeiso, fell victim to an armed attack by unknown assailants during their journey back. This unprovoked ambush during heavy rainfall has shocked the community and raised serious concerns about the safety of those involved in environmental protection efforts.

The Akyem Abuakwa State Secretary, D.M. Ofori Atta, expressed deep concern over the incident and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators. The Akyem Abuakwa Tradition Council condemns this senseless act of violence and has called upon the Regional Police Command to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the matter. They have also pledged full cooperation with the authorities to ensure that justice is served.

It is imperative that such heinous acts are not tolerated in any society that values civility and the rule of law. The unwarranted loss of life and the injuries sustained by the taskforce members serve as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those dedicated to environmental protection.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of Offei Noah, and we extend our heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of Maxwell Kyei, Richmond Talata, and Kwame Amoah. We stand in solidarity with the Akyem Abuakwa Tradition Council and reaffirm our commitment to supporting efforts to uphold justice and security within our communities.
