We have recently witnessed a positive development in the ongoing efforts to address landguard activities and land encroachments within the Greater Accra Region. The Ghana Standards Authority and Regimanuel Estate have been the focus of attention, with the recent arrest of five suspected landguards by the police.
This significant action follows a visit to the affected sites by members of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), in response to petitions regarding the unlawful activities taking place. The Chairman of REGSEC, Daniel Titus-Glover, emphasized the commitment to restoring order in the capital and dealing decisively with individuals involved in such illegal activities.
In his address to the media in Accra, Daniel Titus-Glover reaffirmed the stance of REGSEC in upholding the rule of law and eradicating any form of lawlessness. He stated, "We are in a country of law, not in a jungle. So REGSEC decided to come here to see things for ourselves. Fortunately for us, some of the suspects are here. We’ve picked them, we are taking them to the police and ask them a few questions, then the law will continue."
Furthermore, he emphasized the overarching goal of REGSEC to sanitize the region and ensure that peace prevails without any disruptions caused by miscreants or illegal activities. The commitment to addressing 'landguardism' and maintaining peace underscores the dedication of the authorities to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of property owners.
This proactive approach by REGSEC serves as a testament to the collective efforts aimed at curbing unlawful activities and safeguarding the interests of legitimate landowners. It also sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable under the law.
As we move forward, it is imperative for all stakeholders to continue working collaboratively to address land-related issues and uphold the principles of justice and legality. By doing so, we can contribute to creating an environment where the rule of law prevails, and all individuals can enjoy their rights without fear of unlawful disruptions.
The recent arrests mark a significant step towards addressing landguard activities, and it is a testament to the unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law within the Greater Accra Region. It is our collective responsibility to support such efforts and work towards a future where property rights are respected, and peace and order prevail.
