The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an incident that unfolded at the premises of Metro TV in Accra on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The situation, which has garnered significant public attention, involved a court bailiff and police officers attempting to enforce a court order related to a financial dispute.

According to reports, the incident stemmed from a long-standing debt owed by Metro TV to Vodacom Business (Ghana) Limited. The debt, which dates back over three years, resulted in legal action and the issuance of a writ of execution by the court. This writ authorized the seizure of Metro TV’s assets to settle the outstanding amount.

Sources have clarified that this matter is purely a private business dispute and is not connected to political issues, as speculated in some public discussions. The Ghana Police Service has emphasized the need for accurate information and urged the public to refrain from spreading unfounded rumors.

During the enforcement of the court order, the court bailiff, accompanied by police officers and representatives of Vodacom Business, attempted to take possession of Metro TV’s property. However, the process was met with resistance from Metro TV’s private security personnel, leading to a standoff.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that their officers were present at the scene at the request of the court to provide assistance during the execution of the writ. The police further assured the public that they are conducting thorough investigations into the incident to determine any breaches of law or protocol.

The Police Service has called on all parties involved, particularly the management and staff of Metro TV, to remain calm and cooperate fully with their ongoing investigation. They reiterated their commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent resolution to the matter.

This incident highlights the importance of adhering to legal processes in resolving business disputes and underscores the role of law enforcement in maintaining order during such proceedings. The Ghana Police Service has assured citizens that they will provide updates on the situation as their investigation progresses.

For now, stakeholders and the public are encouraged to allow due process to take its course while refraining from actions or statements that could escalate tensions or spread misinformation.
