We are deeply concerned by the recent events that unfolded in Kwahu Abetifi, resulting in a violent clash and the attempted destoolment of Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

According to sources  tensions arose when Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, claiming to be the Abrewatia of the Kwahu area, arrived in Abetifi accompanied by a group of armed men. This led to the detention of Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III at the Abetifi Palace and an alleged attempt to destool him through traditional rites.

The situation quickly escalated, prompting local youth to gather in protest, armed with machetes. Fortunately, the timely intervention of local law enforcement, supported by a team of police and military personnel, prevented further violence.

In response to these events, traditional leaders in Abetifi reaffirmed Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III as the legitimate chief and restored him to his position at the main Abetifi Palace through their own rites.

The police have initiated investigations into the incident and have subsequently arrested Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa and the armed men involved. To ensure their safety and prevent further violence, Yaa Asantewaa was escorted under strict protection to the police station.

We urge for calm and respect for the rule of law as the authorities work to address this situation. It is essential that disputes and conflicts are resolved through peaceful and lawful means, and we hope for a swift resolution to this troubling incident.

Our thoughts are with the individuals receiving treatment at the hospital, and we extend our gratitude to the local law enforcement and security personnel for their efforts in maintaining peace and order during this challenging time.
