In the wake of recent conflicts in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, authorities have taken proactive measures to protect students during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Recognizing the importance of a secure environment for academic success, the police have partnered with local schools to provide reassurance and bolster safety measures.

During a visit to Nkwanta Senior High School (SHS), Adom News correspondent Obrempongba K. Owusu reported a heightened military presence as classes resumed. This initiative reflects the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure the well-being of students amidst heightened concerns over security.

Chief Superintendent Michael Asiedu, the Divisional Police Commander, addressed the candidates directly, acknowledging their anxieties and emphasizing the importance of peace for successful examination outcomes. "We understand that the recent unrest may have caused anxiety among you and your parents. I want to assure you that your safety is our top priority," he stated.

To this end, several measures have been implemented to secure the area. These include increased police presence, regular patrols within the community, and active engagement with students and families. Chief Superintendent Asiedu also encouraged students to report any suspicious activities or threats, fostering a culture of vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement and the community.

The significance of community support was underscored during his address. Parents and guardians were urged to remain vigilant and provide moral support to their children during this critical period. Furthermore, candidates were encouraged to focus on their studies with confidence, knowing that their safety is being prioritized.

The headmaster of Nkwanta SHS, Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, expressed his gratitude to the police and military for their intervention. He highlighted the role of a secure learning environment in alleviating stress for candidates who are under immense pressure ahead of their exams. "We commend the efforts of law enforcement in ensuring our students feel safe as they prepare for their examinations," Mr. Bagmae remarked.

Following weeks of school closures due to the ongoing conflict in the region, over 625 candidates from Nkwanta SHS, Nkwanta Community SHTS, and Kyabobo Girls SHS have resumed academic activities. Mr. Bagmae urged students to exhibit good behavior during this period, warning that authorities will not tolerate violations of rules and regulations.

This collaborative effort between law enforcement, school authorities, and the community underscores the importance of unity in overcoming challenges. By prioritizing safety and fostering a peaceful atmosphere, stakeholders are ensuring that students can focus on their academic pursuits without fear or distraction.

As the WASSCE approaches, this initiative serves as a reminder of the critical role security plays in education. With continued cooperation and vigilance, students in Nkwanta South Municipality can confidently approach their examinations knowing they are protected and supported.
