In a significant breakthrough, the Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of orchestrating a string of violent robberies in the city. The suspects, reportedly part of a gang of motorbike riders known locally as the "Akwashee Boys," have been linked to numerous criminal activities that have left residents concerned about their safety.

Details of the Arrests

The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Razark (alias Iddi, 27), Iliasu Amidu (25), Serlorm Kportor (alias Scammer or Sheriff, 24), Noah Asumbono (26), and Collins Anafo (alias Asamoah, 27), were taken into custody following extensive investigations. Collins Anafo was the most recent individual to be arrested in connection with these crimes.

According to a statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Police Command, the suspects were involved in a heinous attack on a 74-year-old woman in Adabraka on the evening of July 12, 2025. The victim, who had just closed her shop at Sempe and was heading home, was assaulted with machetes. Her handbag, containing shop keys, a Nokia phone, and GH₵700, was stolen during the attack. Tragically, she sustained severe machete wounds on both arms and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

 Confessions and Evidence

During police interrogation, one of the suspects, Iddrisu Razark, revealed that Collins Anafo was responsible for inflicting the machete wounds while Razark rode the motorbike used in the attack. Another suspect, Iliasu Amidu, confessed to stealing approximately 15 motorbikes from various locations across Accra, including Pokuase, Bortianor, Sampa Valley, Spintex, Achimota, Madina, Ablekuma Fan Milk, Legon, Adabraka, and Korle Gonno Beach. Amidu disclosed that the stolen motorbikes were sold to an individual named Sule at Agbogbloshie.

The suspects have since led investigators to several crime scenes connected to their activities. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend additional accomplices and recover more stolen motorbikes.

 Police Commitment and Public Vigilance

The Accra Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to combating robbery and other violent crimes in the city. Superintendent Juliana Obeng emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to their nearest police station.

This recent development underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. Residents are encouraged to remain alert and cooperate with the police as investigations continue.

Conclusion

The arrest of these suspects marks a critical step in addressing violent crime in Accra. The police are working tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace and security to affected communities. As investigations progress, it is hoped that further arrests will lead to the recovery of stolen property and provide closure for victims of these crimes.

Stay informed and vigilant as we collectively work towards a safer Accra.
