The Bono Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspect in relation to the theft of a Hyundai Mighty Truck, a case that has drawn significant attention due to the high value of the stolen vehicle. The truck, valued at GHC400,000, was reported missing on July 30, 2025, from Baakoniaba in the Sunyani Municipality. In a swift and well-coordinated operation, the police managed to trace the vehicle to Akim Oda in the Eastern Region and arrest the suspect responsible for the crime.
According to a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect, Emmanuel Sarpong, aged 37, was arrested on August 3, 2025. He is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. The statement, which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, detailed the circumstances leading to the arrest and provided insight into the preliminary findings of the case.
The investigation revealed that after stealing the truck, the suspect removed its original registration plates and began using it for commercial purposes. However, the vehicle developed a mechanical fault during this time. The situation took a decisive turn when an intelligence-led undercover operation conducted by a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) led to Sarpong’s arrest. The operation culminated in his apprehension when he arrived at a meeting to collect payment for the truck he had allegedly offered for sale.
The stolen truck, which bears the registration number GR-6552-24, has since been returned to Sunyani. The police are continuing their investigations to uncover further details and potentially identify any accomplices involved in the crime.
This case highlights the importance of swift police action and intelligence-led operations in combating vehicle theft and other forms of organized crime. The Bono Regional Police Command has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order through its efficient response to this incident.
As investigations progress, it is expected that further updates will be provided by the police. In the meantime, this case serves as a reminder to vehicle owners to remain vigilant and implement security measures to prevent theft.
The public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information that could aid in solving crimes and safeguarding communities.
