In a surprising turn of events, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed the seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from the residence of renowned Ghanaian musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale. The luxury vehicle is believed to be tied to proceeds from a criminal enterprise involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month prison sentence in the United States.

The seizure was carried out by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit, with officers adhering to standard safety protocols, including carrying weapons during the operation. The agency clarified that the search and seizure were conducted professionally and without incident. However, Shatta Wale took to social media earlier in the day, expressing frustration and alleging that EOCO officials stormed his residence with guns. He also directed his anger toward EOCO’s Executive Director, Mr. Raymond Archer.

According to an official statement from EOCO, Shatta Wale pleaded with officers not to publicize the seizure, citing concerns about the potential impact on his brand. The musician reportedly emphasized that the Lamborghini Urus was a significant part of his public image and feared that its removal in association with EOCO could damage his reputation among his supporters.

The vehicle is linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah’s criminal activities, which resulted in a restitution order totaling $4,743,433. As part of international cooperation efforts, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice are expected to send a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request to the Government of Ghana for the return of the car.

EOCO also revealed that Shatta Wale, along with a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau, has been identified as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. Both individuals are expected to be invited to assist EOCO in uncovering further details related to the case. The agency stated that it may share its final investigative report with U.S. authorities as part of their collaborative efforts.

This development has sparked significant public interest, given Shatta Wale’s stature as one of Ghana’s most prominent musicians. The case underscores EOCO’s commitment to tackling economic and organized crime, while also highlighting the importance of international cooperation in addressing transnational criminal activities.

As investigations proceed, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact Shatta Wale’s public image and career. For now, the artist finds himself at the center of a high-profile case that has drawn attention both locally and internationally. EOCO’s actions serve as a reminder that no individual is above the law, regardless of their fame or influence.
