In recent days, media reports have circulated suggesting that the Ghana Police Service conducted a raid at the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which allegedly resulted in the death of one individual. These claims have sparked widespread attention and prompted the Ghana Police Service to issue an official statement categorically refuting the allegations.

 Police Dismisses Claims of Raid

In a strongly worded statement, the Ghana Police Service described the reports as entirely “false” and emphasized that no such raid had been carried out. The service clarified that its officers were engaged in a distinct operation aimed at addressing an ongoing robbery incident in Techiman during the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025.

“We wish to categorically state that the claim is false. The Police have not undertaken any such raid,” the statement read.

The Robbery Incident: What Happened?

According to the Police, officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence about a robbery in progress. The operation unfolded around 1:00 a.m., when suspects were spotted attempting to escape by scaling a wall.

During the operation, one of the suspects was shot and later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The deceased was identified as part of a notorious robbery gang known for stealing motorbikes in Techiman and surrounding areas before reselling them in Kumasi.

“Investigations confirm that the gang had returned to Techiman that night for a similar operation when they were intercepted by the Police,” the statement revealed.

Link to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari’s Residence

Further investigation disclosed that the house involved in the incident belonged to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the NPP. However, the Police reiterated that their operation was directed at intercepting a robbery gang and not a raid targeting Mr. Bukari or his residence.

The operation led to the retrieval of a motorbike and other implements believed to have been used by the gang. A targeted manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape during the operation.

 Ensuring Transparency and Accountability

To address public concerns and ensure transparency, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special investigative team comprising officers from key units, including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters.

This team has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the matter to provide clarity and maintain public trust in law enforcement activities.

 Conclusion

The Ghana Police Service’s swift response to these allegations underscores its commitment to transparency and accountability. While investigations continue, it is crucial for citizens and media outlets alike to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims that could undermine public trust.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of balancing effective law enforcement with clear communication to dispel misinformation. The public eagerly awaits further updates from the ongoing investigations initiated by the Inspector-General of Police's special team.
