In the early hours of Friday, September 12, 2025, a distressing incident unfolded on the Sunyani road in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. At least 20 passengers traveling in a Sprinter bus, with registration number GG 4181-16, were robbed at gunpoint. The terrifying event occurred between Tweapease and Mfensi, near the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA), leaving victims shaken but fortunately unharmed.

According to accounts from one of the passengers, the robbery took place around 1:00 a.m. when five armed men blocked the road and forcibly stopped the bus. The assailants demanded that passengers surrender their belongings, including cash, mobile phones, and other valuables. While no physical injuries were reported, the psychological impact on the victims was significant.

Effah Samuel, one of the passengers who experienced the ordeal, confirmed the incident to Citi News. He described how the attackers operated swiftly and left the passengers deeply traumatized. The robbery highlights an ongoing security concern for travelers along this route.

Residents and commuters have repeatedly voiced concerns about the poor condition of the Sunyani road, which they believe contributes to the increasing frequency of robberies in the area. The deteriorated state of the road not only poses safety risks but also creates opportunities for criminal activities, as vehicles are often forced to slow down or stop due to its deplorable condition.

This incident underscores the urgent need for improved security measures and infrastructure development in the region. Authorities must prioritize addressing these challenges to ensure the safety and well-being of travelers and residents alike.

As investigations into this robbery continue, it is hoped that swift action will be taken to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further incidents. In the meantime, travelers are urged to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

The safety of Ghana’s roads remains a shared responsibility between government authorities, law enforcement, and community members. Collaborative efforts are essential to create a secure environment for all who rely on these vital transportation routes.
