In a case that has drawn significant public attention, a 21-year-old fisherman, Michael Dodoo, has been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court. Dodoo is accused of stealing GH¢50,800 in cash, along with two mobile phones, from the vehicle of a businessman in Accra. The incident reportedly occurred on September 20, 2025, and involved three accomplices who remain at large.
Details of the Incident
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, the complainant, Seidu Mohammed, a businessman residing in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, parked his Opel vehicle in front of the UBA Bank at Accra Central Branch at approximately 4:00 a.m. on the day of the incident. The complainant left his car doors unlocked while he crossed the road to purchase tea from a vendor. Inside the vehicle was a bag containing two Tecno mobile phones valued at GH¢3,500 and cash amounting to GH¢50,800.
Dodoo and his alleged accomplices—identified as Sadiku, Prince, and Amuquaye—were reportedly present at the scene and devised a plan to break into the vehicle. Exploiting the unlocked car doors, they entered and stole the phones and cash.
Arrest and Investigation
The police were alerted to suspicious activities in the area and subsequently arrested Dodoo based on intelligence reports. During a search conducted on Dodoo, authorities discovered two Tecno mobile phones that were later identified by the complainant as those stolen from his vehicle.
During interrogation, Dodoo reportedly admitted to participating in the theft. He revealed that following the crime, a dispute arose among the group regarding how to divide the stolen money. According to Dodoo, Amuquaye took custody of the cash with the intention of distributing it later.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend Dodoo's accomplices—Prince, Amuquaye, and Sadiku—who remain at large. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
Court Proceedings
Dodoo has been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, and theft. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The case is being presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit at the Dansoman Circuit Court. Dodoo is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 20, 2025.
