In a significant development, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 38-year-old man in connection with the alleged possession and transportation of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. The incident occurred in the Volta Region, specifically near Tarso Hotel in Ho.

According to an official statement from the police, the suspect was intercepted while driving a vehicle with registration number GV 2460-14. The vehicle, notably registered to the Ghana Health Service, was stopped after it failed to comply with a stop signal at the OLA Top checkpoint. Rather than adhering to the directive, the driver reportedly sped through the barrier, prompting police officers to pursue the vehicle. The vehicle was eventually intercepted and impounded.

The suspect, identified as Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, was apprehended on Friday, January 23, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation. The arrest represents a critical step in the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal drug-related activities in the region.

Currently, Mr. Dogbey is in police custody and is assisting authorities with their investigations. Law enforcement officials have indicated that further inquiries are underway to determine the nature of the suspected narcotic substances and to shed light on the circumstances leading to this incident.

This case raises serious concerns due to the involvement of a vehicle registered to a government agency, further emphasizing the need for thorough investigations to ensure accountability and transparency. The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order while working diligently to curb the illicit drug trade within the country.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities as part of a collective effort to ensure safety and security across Ghana. Updates on this developing story will be provided as new information becomes available.
