In a significant development in the fight against organized crime, the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has made a breakthrough in its ongoing investigation into a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in Wapuli. After weeks of meticulous surveillance and intelligence gathering, law enforcement officers have successfully apprehended a key suspect believed to be a central figure in the criminal network.

The case, which has gripped public attention, began on December 6, 2025, when PID officers launched a daring rescue operation to save a 42-year-old man abducted by the syndicate. The victim, who endured serious injuries during his captivity, was freed after the kidnappers had collected GH¢90,000 out of a GH¢100,000 ransom demand. During the operation, police managed to recover GH¢70,000 of the ransom and arrested three individuals suspected to be part of the four-member gang.

Despite these initial arrests, the police remained resolute in their pursuit of justice. Their efforts intensified as they worked tirelessly to track down the fourth and final suspect, who investigators believe played a pivotal role in orchestrating the syndicate's activities. The manhunt spanned across various parts of the Northern Region and was guided by intelligence-led operations.

The breakthrough came in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when law enforcement officers successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as Hoyeefe Amadu. He was located in a remote village approximately 10 kilometers from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu. The arrest was executed at approximately 1:30 am, following precise intelligence that pinpointed the suspect's hideout.

Confirming the arrest, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, emphasized the significance of this development. In an official statement, he remarked, "The arrest of this key suspect underscores our commitment to ensuring that all persons involved in this heinous crime are brought to justice."

The three suspects previously arrested remain in prison custody and are expected to reappear in court as investigations continue. The police have reiterated their determination to dismantle the entire kidnapping syndicate and ensure that those responsible for these crimes face the full force of the law.

The successful apprehension of this key suspect highlights the unwavering dedication of the Northern Regional Police in combating organized crime and safeguarding public safety. As investigations proceed, this case serves as a reminder of law enforcement's vital role in upholding justice and restoring confidence in the rule of law.
