In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Tema Regional Police Command has successfully intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. This operation, which was carried out along the Akosombo-Tema road, is part of the Command's ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and ensure public safety in the region.

The intelligence-led operation was initiated on January 10, 2026, following credible information that narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema. Acting swiftly, police teams mounted surveillance along the route, with a particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

In the early hours of January 11, 2026, at approximately 12:45 a.m., law enforcement officers intercepted two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22. The vehicles were being driven by two suspects, Isaac Odoi, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicles, officers discovered several compressed parcels wrapped in yellow material, suspected to contain narcotic drugs.

The suspects were immediately apprehended and their vehicles were escorted to the police station for further investigation. On January 12, 2026, the seized items and the suspects were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema. A detailed inventory was conducted, revealing that 872 parcels were concealed in the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations. Samples of the seized substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for detailed testing to confirm their composition. Additionally, searches will be conducted at the suspects' residences to uncover any further evidence related to this case. The police are also preparing to present the suspects before the court as part of due legal processes.

This operation underscores the Tema Regional Police Command's unwavering commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and other forms of organized crime. The Command has reiterated its determination to safeguard communities and ensure public safety through proactive and intelligence-driven initiatives.

The Tema Regional Police Command has also called on members of the public to continue sharing credible information that can aid in combating criminal activities. Public cooperation remains vital in sustaining efforts to create secure and drug-free communities.

This successful operation serves as a reminder of the critical role law enforcement plays in disrupting illegal activities that threaten societal well-being. The Tema Regional Police Command is resolute in its mission to uphold security and justice for all citizens.
