In a deeply unsettling incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, the Awutu Ofaakor District Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Moses, in connection with the suspected murder of his girlfriend. The tragic event occurred at Yamoah Nkwanta, a town situated in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, Ghana.

According to reports gathered by Citi News, the suspect, a resident of Oboman in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, had traveled to Yamoah Nkwanta to visit his girlfriend, identified only as Sister Yaa. The visit, which was intended to be an overnight stay, took a devastating turn when a disagreement arose between the two.

Sources indicate that the conflict stemmed from the deceased’s refusal to engage in sexual activity with the suspect. This reportedly escalated into a violent altercation during which the suspect inflicted severe machete wounds on Sister Yaa. In a shocking act of brutality, he then dragged her out of her room and fatally struck her head with a concrete block.

The horrific incident was brought to the attention of authorities by Nai Achiene Acheampong Kuma, the Chief of Awutu Yamoah Nkwanta and Ogyahene of the Awutu Traditional Council. Chief Acheampong Kuma personally reported the matter to the police after learning about the gruesome events. This timely intervention led to the apprehension of the suspect by local police in Yamoah Nkwanta, who subsequently transferred him to the Ofaakor District Police Command for further investigation.

The remains of the victim have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue as law enforcement officials continue their efforts to contact her family and provide them with updates on the tragic situation. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations proceed.

This incident has left the community in shock and mourning. It also serves as a grim reminder of the destructive consequences of gender-based violence. Authorities and community leaders are urging individuals to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts and to report any signs of violence or abuse to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

As investigations continue, it is hoped that justice will be served and that this tragic loss will prompt greater awareness and action against violence in relationships. The thoughts and prayers of many are with the family and loved ones of Sister Yaa during this difficult time.
