In a decisive operation, the Nsawam District Police Command, in collaboration with the Suhum Police Command, successfully apprehended five individuals in connection with the kidnapping of two men traveling from Accra to Anyinam. The victims, identified as Seidu Sambiane, 28, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 42, were rescued unharmed during the operation.
The incident came to light on January 10, 2026, when police received intelligence that the two men had been abducted and taken to an undisclosed location. The suspects reportedly demanded a ransom of GH¢400,000 from the victims' families but later instructed them to pay an initial amount of GH¢5,000.
Acting swiftly on the information, law enforcement officials devised a strategic operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The suspects were lured to a drinking spot near the Suhum Roundabout, where all five were arrested without incident. The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Suleman Salifu, 24; Godfred Owusu, 26; Antwi Bismark, 27; Anas Salis, 38; and Gyamfi Isaac, 33.
A search of an unregistered Acura 4×4 vehicle used by the suspects uncovered several incriminating items. Among the recovered items were forged GH¢100 and GH¢200 notes, specimen papers cut to the size of banknotes, and cash amounting to GH¢4,600. Additionally, police retrieved a pistol, a cutlass, talismans and amulets, as well as five mobile phones.
The swift rescue of the victims and the arrest of the suspects underscore the importance of effective intelligence gathering and prompt action by law enforcement agencies. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
