In a significant breakthrough, the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has apprehended two suspects linked to a robbery involving an Indian national and a separate plot to target a distribution company in Obuasi. The arrests were made during intelligence-led operations conducted between April 16 and April 20, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Fuseini, also known by the alias “Iddi,” and Shaibu Mohammed, referred to as “SM” or “Cicinati,” were taken into custody following diligent investigative efforts by law enforcement. The operations underscore the police's commitment to addressing criminal activities and ensuring public safety in the region.

 Details of the Arrests

According to an official statement from the police, Fuseini was apprehended at his hideout in Bedieso after authorities received a tip-off regarding a planned armed attack in Obuasi. During interrogation, Fuseini reportedly admitted to being part of a six-member gang responsible for a robbery that occurred on April 12, 2026, at New Baakoyeden.

The gang allegedly targeted the residence of an Indian national, making away with GH₵150,000. Investigators revealed that the operation was facilitated by an insider identified as Ibrahim, an employee of the victim. Ibrahim is said to have provided the gang with information about substantial sums of money stored in the house.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed at Gausu on April 20. Mohammed reportedly confessed to his involvement in planning the earlier robbery and disclosed that the group had also set its sights on a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel for another criminal operation.

 Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Efforts

Both suspects are currently standing trial before the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000. The police have assured the public that justice will be pursued rigorously and that all individuals implicated in criminal activities will face due legal processes.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to locate other members of the gang, identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Authorities believe these individuals are armed with a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol, posing a continued threat to public safety.

 Community Involvement and Assurance

The police have called upon residents to assist in the investigation by providing any relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of the remaining suspects. They emphasized that community cooperation is vital in combating crime effectively.

In their statement, law enforcement officials expressed confidence in their ability to bring all perpetrators to justice and recover stolen assets. They also reassured the public that measures are being taken to enhance security across Obuasi and surrounding areas.

 Conclusion

The arrests of Fuseini and Mohammed mark a significant step forward in addressing organized crime within the Ashanti South region. The police’s swift action and ongoing efforts demonstrate their dedication to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining law and order. As investigations continue, collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities will play a critical role in ensuring justice is served and peace is restored.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as authorities work tirelessly to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring closure to these cases.
