In a deeply concerning incident that has shaken the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of Ghana’s Central Region, police have commenced a manhunt for a group of unidentified assailants who allegedly shot a 27-year-old Community Police Assistant. The incident occurred at Dwakessiem, near Dunkwa-on-Offin, on the morning of Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The victim, identified as Emmanuel Agyapong, sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and is currently receiving medical care at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He was referred there from the Dunkwa-on-Offin Municipal Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the attack transpired between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The Upper Denkyira East Municipal Police Commander, DSP Simon Boavo, revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the attack was the result of an altercation between Mr. Agyapong and two individuals on a motorbike. During the confrontation, one of the riders reportedly sustained an injury and left the scene. He allegedly returned later with a group of men armed with cutlasses and a pump-action shotgun.
DSP Boavo explained that during the subsequent attack, a shot was fired, hitting Mr. Agyapong in the thigh. Another warning shot was discharged before the assailants fled the scene. The attack has prompted an intense investigation and manhunt by local law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police Appeal for Public Support
In an interview with Adom News, DSP Boavo called on members of the public to assist security personnel in their efforts to maintain law and order. He emphasized the importance of early intervention in such confrontations to prevent them from escalating into violence.
