The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has recently taken decisive action against the sale of illicit products by shutting down three facilities located in Nungua. This operation, conducted on Monday, July 6, was the culmination of extensive investigations aimed at curbing the distribution of unauthorized substances.

According to an official statement released by the FDA on their Facebook page, the investigation revealed that the facilities were involved in the sale of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as “laughing gas”, as well as Benylin mixed with codeine, a controlled medicine. Additionally, unregistered shisha products were found to be part of their inventory. These substances pose significant risks to public health due to their unregulated nature and potential for misuse.

The FDA emphasized that this enforcement exercise is part of its broader mission to protect public health and ensure adherence to regulations concerning the sale and distribution of medicines and other controlled substances. The Authority highlighted that the facilities in question were dealing in products that either lacked registration or were subject to stringent regulatory controls, thereby endangering consumers.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the FDA stated it would continue to engage in surveillance, investigations, and enforcement actions against individuals and businesses involved in the sale of illegal or unauthorized products. This initiative underscores the FDA's dedication to maintaining public health standards and mitigating risks associated with non-compliant products.

The Authority also called upon the public to remain vigilant and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities related to FDA-regulated products to the appropriate authorities. This collaborative approach between the FDA, law enforcement, and the public is crucial in safeguarding health and ensuring compliance with established regulations.

In conclusion, this operation serves as a reminder of the FDA's unwavering commitment to upholding public safety and health standards through rigorous enforcement and community engagement.
