We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred in Fiapre, Sunyani West Municipality, resulting in the loss of lives due to a fire outbreak. The preliminary investigations conducted by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have pointed to a piece of lighted cigarette as the cause of the fire.
Victims
On January 18, 2024, Alex Antwi, 35, and his 17-year-old daughter, Sharifa Adiza, lost their lives in the fire that engulfed their four-bedroom house. This devastating event has left a profound impact on their family and the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families as they navigate through this difficult time.
Cause of Fire
According to Divisional Officer Grade III (DO III), Reverend Thomas Kofi Dzah, head of Fire at the Bono Regional Command of the GNFS, "Our initial investigation showed the fire might have been caused by a piece or butt of a lighted cigarette." The police have retrieved and deposited the charred bodies of the deceased at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Response to Tragedy
In response to this tragedy, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, and Mr Evans Kusi Buadum, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, have visited and commiserated with the bereaved families. Their presence and support during this difficult time are deeply appreciated.
