We have received reports indicating that the National Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are set to make an announcement regarding the suspension of the Manhyia South Constituency Chairman, Ofori Atta-Tomtom, and Organizer Alhaji Abubakari, also known as Alhaji Aboba. The reason cited for their suspension is described as "anti-party behavior" by the party.
The decision to suspend Alhaji Abubakari stems from a verbal attack he directed at the Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. This incident occurred during the party’s Parliamentary vetting process, where Alhaji Abubakari reportedly failed to acknowledge the contributions of Member of Parliament of Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, to the party’s internal activities in the Ashanti region. The National Organizer had sung the praises of the Minister of Energy for sponsoring his campaign, which led to his election into office. The party's national executives have deemed this verbal attack as unfortunate and have decided to suspend Alhaji Abubakari as a deterrent to other party members.
Furthermore, the Manhyia South Constituency Chairman has also been implicated in actions detrimental to the party. He allegedly sold out the party’s Chairman and incited Ashanties against the National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, for allegedly making disparaging comments against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. As a result, the decision has been made to suspend him for his actions and associated threats made during radio interviews.
It is important to note that despite the resolution of the issue by the Kumasi Traditional Council, which ordered for the reversal of Chairman Wontumi’s curses against Nana Kwaku Duah, Chief of Kokoso, the party views such anti-party behavior as unacceptable.
In response to these developments, it has been reported that Wontumi’s camp is preparing to address a news conference in the near future to shed light on what they perceive as a hidden agenda against Chairman Wontumi and those who sponsored press conferences to incite Ashanties against the ruling party and the Ashanti regional chairman.
The NPP's swift action in addressing these issues underscores their commitment to upholding party discipline and unity. It is imperative for all members to adhere to the principles and values of the party, and to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds its integrity.
As more information becomes available, we will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates accordingly.
