The recent statement by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, regarding the lack of a prosecutable docket in the murder case of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, has sparked public concern and raised questions about the progress of the investigation.

According to the Minister, no document fit for prosecution has been submitted to his office in relation to the tragic killing of Ahmed Suale. This revelation comes despite ongoing investigations and the initial detention of four suspects to aid in the inquiry. These suspects were later granted police enquiry bail after eyewitnesses failed to identify them.

Ahmed Suale, known for his investigative journalism, was fatally shot on January 16, 2019, by two unidentified individuals on a motorbike with a covered license plate. The incident took place in Madina as Suale was returning from a family meeting. The unresolved nature of his murder has been a cause of concern for many, including members of the parliament.

During a parliamentary session, the Minister emphasized that the murder of Ahmed Suale is one of several pending cases. He highlighted that the criminal investigations department of the Ghana Police Service is handling the matter, but as of now, no prosecutable document has been presented to his office.

The Minister further revealed that he had engaged with the former inspector of police, James Oppong-Boanuh, who expressed concern about the failure to resolve this case and other pending cases. In response, the Minister demanded a report on the state of investigations into the matter from the director general of CID.

The lack of progress in resolving the murder of Ahmed Suale is a matter of great concern and raises questions about the effectiveness and efficiency of the investigative process. It is imperative that the authorities involved in this case expedite their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide closure to the family and loved ones of Ahmed Suale.

As this case continues to unfold, it is essential for the public to remain vigilant and for the relevant authorities to prioritize and expedite their investigations. The pursuit of justice for Ahmed Suale is not only crucial for addressing this specific tragedy but also for upholding press freedom and ensuring the safety of journalists in Ghana.
