We are pleased to announce that AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has officially handed over a newly constructed GHC2.13 million Obuasi District Police Headquarters block to the Ghana Police Service. This fully furnished infrastructure is a testament to AngloGold's commitment to supporting the law enforcement efforts in the Obuasi community.
During the handing over ceremony, Mr. Awie Frey, the Acting Managing Director of AngloGold, emphasized that the decision to provide this infrastructure stemmed from the company's regular strategic engagements with security agencies. The construction of the facility, carried out by Obuasi-based Kenzard Company Limited, has resulted in modern amenities such as interrogation rooms, a conference room, and fully furnished dedicated offices for the various police units.
Mr. Frey expressed optimism that the new infrastructure will not only provide a suitable office space for the Obuasi District Police Command but also significantly enhance law enforcement efforts, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the local communities.
In response, ACP George Ankomah, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, conveyed his appreciation to AngloGold for their contribution to the construction of the headquarters. He urged residents in the vicinity of the new facility to collaborate with the police and report any criminal activities, emphasizing the importance of allowing law enforcement to conduct thorough investigations rather than resorting to vigilante justice.
Furthermore, Mr. I. K. Acheampong, representing the Regional Minister, extended gratitude to AngloGold for their various contributions to the development of Obuasi and its environs, including the provision of educational facilities. This sentiment was echoed by Nana Akua Dwum II, the Edubiasehemaa, who called upon the community to offer unwavering support to the police in their crucial role, acknowledging the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in ensuring public safety.
The construction and handover of the Obuasi District Police Headquarters stand as a testament to AngloGold's dedication to fostering a secure and thriving environment for the residents of Obuasi. This initiative exemplifies the positive impact that collaboration between private enterprises and public institutions can have on local communities.
We commend AngloGold for their proactive engagement and investment in enhancing law enforcement capabilities, and we look forward to witnessing the continued benefits that this infrastructure will bring to the area.
