In recent news, a resident of Asuaba community in Upper West Akyem District, Eastern Region, has caused a stir among traditional rulers in Akyem Abuakwa. Yaa Asantewaa, also known as Getty, has drawn criticism for her remarks regarding Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and the Okyeman Land Protection task force.

Getty's comments stem from the dissatisfaction within the community over the seizure and destruction of 6000 acres of farmland by the task force. In a press conference representing approximately 20 affected communities, she expressed profound discontent over the forceful takeover of their lands and the subsequent devastation of agricultural fields. She went on to condemn the actions of the Okyeman task force, accusing them of intimidation and illegal activities.

The strong language used by Getty, particularly in labeling the Okyenhene and the task force as criminal elements, has sparked strong reactions from some traditional rulers in Akyem Abuakwa. Nana Baffuor Kwabena Baah, Kyebi- Apapam Akwansrahene, has ordered Getty to initiate actions to traditionally apologize to the Okyenhene, warning that failure to do so may result in her arrest by the Ghana Police Service for what he deemed a misguided statement.

According to Nana Baffuor Kwabena Baah, the Asuaba community and its environs fall under the jurisdiction of the Akyem Abuakwa traditional area and thus belong to the Okyenhene. He asserted that Getty's allegations are baseless and detrimental to the reputation of the traditional leadership.

In light of the intense backlash and purported attempts to apprehend her, Getty has reportedly fled the community and gone into hiding to evade arrest.

The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the aftermath of the land seizure and the ensuing conflict between Getty and the traditional rulers. The implications of these events on the relationship between the affected communities and the traditional leadership are yet to unfold.

It is clear that there are deep-seated grievances and conflicting perspectives at play in this complex situation. As developments unfold, it is crucial for all parties involved to seek constructive dialogue and resolution in order to address the underlying issues and work towards a harmonious resolution.

The unfolding events serve as a reminder of the importance of effective communication, mutual understanding, and respect for differing viewpoints in addressing contentious issues within communities. It is our hope that all stakeholders will engage in meaningful dialogue to pave the way for a peaceful and equitable resolution.
