ECG warns Public against Scammers operating Fake Mobile Money Accounts

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning to the public regarding fraudulent activities targeting its customers. There have been reports of individuals posing as ECG representatives and requesting payments to purported ECG bank accounts or mobile money accounts in exchange for services such as meter replacement, meter installation, and debt cancellation.


Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, the General Manager of ECG in the Volta Region, has emphasized that the company does not operate any mobile money accounts. She has urged customers to exercise caution and not entertain any requests for payments to ECG mobile money accounts from unauthorized individuals.


It has come to light that these fraudsters have been reaching out to customers through social media or phone calls, instructing them to make payments into specific bank accounts or mobile money numbers in order to access ECG services or have their meters replaced.


In light of these reports, it is crucial for ECG customers to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any communication they receive regarding payments for services. ECG reiterates that legitimate transactions with the company should only be conducted through approved channels and urges custo
mers to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
