We are deeply saddened to report a tragic collision that occurred on the Asamakese to Nsawam road in the Eastern region, resulting in the loss of three lives. The collision involved a speeding Toyota vehicle, registered as GW1078-S and transporting palm fruits, and a tipper truck with registration number GN 1408-18-19 laden with sand from the Asamankese area en route to Nsawam.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the collision was caused by the Toyota driver's attempt to evade a pothole, leading to a devastating head-on impact with the tipper truck. Tragically, all occupants of the Toyota, including the driver, mate, and a female trader transporting the palm fruits, lost their lives in the accident.
This particular stretch of road has unfortunately gained notoriety for its history of fatal crashes, with at least two similar incidents reported earlier this year. Concerned resident Eunice Aseye has attributed the recurring accidents to speeding and reckless overtaking by drivers.
In light of these tragic occurrences, Ms. Aseye has called upon the Ghana Highway Authority to intervene by installing speed rams along the road to mitigate such incidents. Meanwhile, the Police have commenced investigations into the accident, and the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time. We urge all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on our roads.
