In a recent case brought before the Achimota Circuit Court, a driver’s mate named Joseph Ankomah was accused of breaking into an office and stealing various office accessories. Ankomah pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, and stealing.

Despite his plea, Ankomah was admitted to bail in the sum of GHc15,000 with two sureties by the trial judge, Mr Isaac Addo. The court also ordered the prosecution to comply with the rules of disclosure and file their witness statements for case management conference at the next adjourned date.

The incident, which occurred on February 20, 2024, involved Ankomah and an accomplice named James, who is currently at large. The complainant, Moses Boadi, an IT expert residing at Ofankor in Accra, reported that his office was broken into and several items were stolen, including a computer monitor, Digital Video Recorder (DVR), computer system unit, air condition remote, and a computer desktop.

Fortunately, the complainant had installed a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Camera at the premises, which captured footage of the accused individuals. This crucial evidence led to the arrest of Ankomah after he was identified from the CCTV footage.

Initially, Ankomah denied any involvement in the theft. However, after watching the footage that captured his actions and inculpated him in the crime, he confessed to committing the act with his accomplice, James. Ankomah claimed that James had taken the stolen items to Kwame Nkrumah Circle to sell them and stated that he did not know James's place of abode.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures such as CCTV cameras in deterring and solving criminal activities. It also highlights the role of technology in providing crucial evidence for investigations and legal proceedings.

As the case progresses, it will be important to see how the prosecution handles the evidence gathered from the CCTV footage and how Ankomah's confession will impact the trial. The search for the accomplice, James, who is currently at large, adds another layer of complexity to the case.

The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have implications for the individuals involved and emphasize the significance of adhering to the law. It also underscores the responsibility of all individuals to respect the property rights of others and refrain from engaging in criminal activities.
