EC dispels rumors of alleged BVD thefts

We would like to address the recent concerns regarding the security of the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) used by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).

It has come to our attention that there have been misconceptions regarding a memo titled “RETURN OF BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION DEVICES” which was circulated recently. We would like to clarify that all BVDs are secured with the Commission and there have been no thefts of BVDs from our stores.

The memo in question was actually intended for internal asset reconciliation and was a routine communication aimed at ensuring the accountability and returning of all electoral equipment including BVDs to the Commission’s custody.

It is important to note that the only items stolen were five laptops, which are separate from the BVDs and do not possess the capability to affect the integrity or outcome of elections.

We understand the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in the electoral process, and we assure the public that the security of the BVDs is of utmost priority to the Electoral Commission.

We urge the public to refrain from spreading rumors and misinformation, and to rely on official communications from the Electoral Commission for accurate information regarding our operations.

We remain committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, and we appreciate the continued support and trust of the Ghanaian people in our efforts. Thank you.
