We are deeply concerned about the recent incident involving Albert Ankomah, a 24-year-old small-scale miner, who has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labor for theft by the Tarkwa circuit court. Ankomah, also known as ‘Paa Yaw or Simple,’ admitted to breaking into two homes and stealing various items, including mobile phones and household belongings.

The court heard that the complainants, Hayford and Godfred Addo, who worked as a driver and banker, respectively, resided in the same house at Wassa Bawdie. Ankomah, on the other hand, lived at Dompim, both in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality.

The series of events unfolded on February 8, 2024, when the first complainant discovered that his iPhone 13 Promax, valued at GH¢ 9,000, along with other valuable items, had been stolen from his bedroom. Shortly thereafter, the second complainant noticed the disappearance of his Tecno Pop 2 power mobile phone and other accessories from his veranda.

Following their suspicions, the complainants reported the theft to the Bawdie police, leading to Ankomah's arrest by a witness and some residents. Subsequently, the stolen items were recovered from Ankomah's residence, including several mobile phones and a 32-inch Asano Television.

As the investigation progressed, the second complainant positively identified his stolen mobile phone among the recovered items at the police station. Consequently, Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, the presiding judge, ordered the return of the stolen items to the respective complainants.

This verdict serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of criminal activities and the importance of upholding the law. We hope that this case will deter others from engaging in similar unlawful behavior and contribute to maintaining security within our communities.
