In a recent development in the Sissala East Municipality of the Upper West Region, a 33-year-old farmer, Mr. Moro Musah, has been apprehended by the Tumu Police for his alleged involvement in the theft of cattle in October 2023 at Kroboi.

According to reports, Mr. Musah admitted to the theft in a caution statement presented to the Circuit Court in Wa. However, he claimed that he had stolen 14 of the cattle, not the reported 60. This discrepancy has raised questions and added complexity to the case.

The accused was initially charged with stealing 60 cattle and has been remanded in police custody pending further investigation and legal proceedings.

The arrest and subsequent legal action against Mr. Musah came after a complaint was lodged by Mr. Barry Abdoulaye, a Fulani herdsman from Yigantu in Sissala East, who reported the theft of 60 cattle from his kraal.

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, ACP Albert Adiita, presented compelling facts. It was revealed that a motor patrol team intercepted a vehicle loaded with three cattle suspected to have been stolen. The driver of the vehicle implicated Mr. Musah, alleging that he had tasked him to transport the animals from Kroboi to Wa. Subsequent investigations and a telephone conversation between the driver and Mr. Musah seemed to confirm the latter’s involvement in the ownership of the cattle.

Further evidence emerged when a distinct mark on the three intercepted cattle matched some of the stolen livestock belonging to Mr. Abdoulaye. Additional markings on other cattle found in Mr. Abdoulaye’s kraal further solidified the suspicion of theft by Mr. Musah.

Despite initial difficulties in locating Mr. Musah, the persistence of the authorities led to his eventual apprehension on December 8, 2023. Following interrogation, he returned 14 of the stolen cattle, while efforts to locate the remaining animals are ongoing.

As the legal process unfolds, the court has remanded Mr. Musah with a scheduled reappearance on April 16, 2024.

The case of alleged cattle theft involving Mr. Moro Musah underscores the importance of thorough investigation and adherence to due process in addressing criminal activities. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have implications for both the accused and the affected parties, emphasizing the significance of upholding justice and accountability within our communities.
