We are deeply troubled by the recent incident involving Stephen Nartey, a 39-year-old mason, who has been remanded into police custody for the alleged stabbing of his pregnant fiancée, Miss Charity Osoom. The Ashaiman Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Simon Gaga, remanded Nartey on the charge of causing harm, as his plea was not taken.

According to Police Chief Inspector Christian Oscar Norgbedzi, the 38-year-old victim, who is a caterer residing at Ashiaman Newtown, was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen, right hand, and right breast with a knife on March 21, 2024. The victim was initially taken to Pleasant Medical Centre for treatment and later referred to the Tema General Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical care. It has been confirmed that she was six months pregnant at the time of the incident.

The prosecution revealed that the victim had moved to stay with her grandmother at Ashaiman-Newtown on March 18, 2024, due to alleged abusive conduct by the accused person. On the day of the incident, as she was on her way home from work, she encountered Nartey near a big gutter in the Ashaiman-Middle East, Pleasant Medical Centre area, leading to a confrontation during which she was allegedly stabbed multiple times.

Nartey reportedly fled the scene upon realizing the severity of the victim's injuries, but was apprehended by individuals who came to her aid. The knife used in the stabbing was recovered by the police at the scene, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

It is imperative that justice is served in this distressing case, and we hope for the swift recovery of Miss Charity Osoom. Our thoughts are with her during this difficult time. We also urge for a thorough investigation to ensure that such acts of violence are met with the full force of the law.

Domestic violence and attacks on pregnant women are abhorrent and have no place in any society. It is incumbent upon all of us to stand against such actions and work towards creating a safe and supportive environment for all individuals.

As this case progresses through the legal system, we trust that the authorities will handle it with the utmost diligence and sensitivity. We also encourage anyone who may be experiencing domestic abuse to seek help from relevant support services.

We will continue to monitor developments related to this case and provide updates as appropriate.
