We are deeply saddened to report on a disturbing incident that occurred in Fetentaa, located in the Berekum West District of the Bono region. A young man, believed to be in his 20s, has been apprehended for inflicting cutlass wounds on a 14-year-old boy, Raphael Oteng.

The unfortunate event took place last Friday while Raphael was working with his sister on their cashew farm. According to his sister, Matilda Baafi, the suspect approached them on the farm and requested water. However, after granting his request, he began making unwanted advances towards Matilda, which she declined. This led to a confrontation where the suspect physically assaulted Raphael.

Matilda, feeling helpless, sought assistance from nearby farms, but upon their return, both Raphael and the suspect were nowhere to be found, except for blood stains. It was later discovered that Raphael had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for treatment. He underwent surgical sutures for two slashed fingers and remains in critical condition.

The father of the victim, Kwaku Boabeng, expressed deep concern for his son's well-being and the traumatic experience he had endured. Additionally, Emmanuel Effah Kwaku, a Unit Committee member, confirmed that the suspect had fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended and handed over to the police.

As of now, the suspect has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30th to face the consequences of his actions.

This distressing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift action in response to such acts of violence. Our thoughts are with Raphael Oteng and his family during this difficult time, and we hope for his speedy recovery.

We urge for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal measures to be taken to ensure that justice is served for the victim. Acts of violence have no place in any community, and it is crucial that we stand together to prevent such occurrences in the future.
