In a recent development, Agama Prosper, a 41-year-old shoemaker, has been handed a 12-month prison sentence by the Hohoe Circuit Court for an egregious offense against a minor.

The incident in question involved the insertion of his finger into the vagina of a six-year-old class one pupil. Despite pleading guilty with an explanation on April 22, his account failed to absolve him of the charge, resulting in the subsequent sentencing.

According to Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, who acted as the prosecutor in this case, the victim reported experiencing discomfort in her private area during a bathing session with her mother. Subsequently, she disclosed that Agama Prosper was responsible for the distressing ordeal.

Upon receiving this distressing information, the victim's father promptly reported the matter to the Hohoe Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) office. Following protocol, police medical report forms were issued for the victim to undergo examination and treatment at a government hospital. The medical officer's endorsement on the forms confirmed the distressing revelation - the victim's hymen had been compromised.

Subsequently, Agama Prosper was taken into custody to facilitate further police investigations. During this process, he admitted to the abhorrent act, leading to his conviction.

This case serves as a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of minors and the imperative nature of safeguarding their well-being. The swift and decisive actions taken by the authorities in addressing this matter are commendable, underscoring the commitment to upholding justice and protecting the rights of the innocent.

As we reflect on this disconcerting episode, let us reaffirm our collective responsibility in ensuring the safety and security of our young ones. May this verdict bring solace to the victim and serve as a deterrent against such reprehensible actions in the future.
