We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Mr. Sina Peter, a prominent rice farmer and producer of Tongu Rice in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region. Mr. Peter, who was in his mid-40s, met an untimely death when he was shot by unknown gunmen on his farm at Yorve, near Agordome.

Mr. Peter, also the owner of the Sinagro Guest House at Sogakope, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Sogakope District Hospital. The incident took place on Monday, May 20, at approximately 1900 hours while Mr. Peter and his workers were in the process of harvesting rice.

According to Mr. Johnson Kobby Amedzo, the Assembly Member for Xikpo-Agbagorme Electoral Area and a friend of the deceased, the assailants first shot one of Mr. Peter's workers, Kafui, as they were packing the harvested rice into a vehicle. Subsequently, Mr. Peter, upon hearing the gunshots and attempting to investigate, was also shot and tragically lost his life.

Kafui was later transferred to the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical attention, and the families of the deceased are working closely with the Sogakope Police to gather further information regarding this devastating incident.

At this time, it is essential for members of the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. The authorities are actively conducting investigations, and any assistance from the community would be invaluable.

While sources close to the Ghana News Agency have suggested a possible link to land litigation, the Sogakope Police have not provided detailed information and have only confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Mr. Sina Peter, a former Marketing Manager of Brazil Rice, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and four children. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

The body of Mr. Peter has been taken to the Sogakope District morgue as authorities await the necessary procedures, including an autopsy.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mr. Sina Peter. His contributions to the agricultural sector and his community will be remembered, and his absence will be deeply felt.
