We are deeply saddened to report a tragic incident that occurred in Abuakwa Asonomaso, Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Ashanti Region. A 55-year-old woman, Joyce Boateng, has allegedly stabbed her 76-year-old mother, Afia Sarpomaah, to death on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

The motive behind this heinous act stems from accusations made by a pastor, who claimed that Afia Sarpomaah was a witch. This accusation appears to have led to the unfortunate loss of life.

According to Isaac Adu Boateng, the Assembly member who confirmed the incident to Kumasi-based OTEC FM, the suspect attempted to take her own life by drinking weedicide after committing the crime. Fortunately, she was apprehended by some residents and promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Joyce Boateng was later handed over to the Police, where she admitted to the crime. The body of the deceased has been deposited at Afari Hospital Mortuary pending further investigations.

This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of baseless accusations and the importance of seeking justice through legal means. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and community affected by this tragedy.

We hope that thorough investigations will be conducted to bring closure to this devastating loss and to prevent such occurrences in the future.
