We are deeply concerned by the recent disruption during the vote-counting process in the ongoing re-run of the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primary in the Walewale Constituency. The Ghana Police Service has taken swift action to restore calm in Walewale following the incident.

According to a statement released by the Police Service, an individual named Kamara Bawah has been arrested for causing damage to some ballot papers. The suspect is currently in custody, assisting with police investigations. Additionally, security has been reinforced in Walewale and its surroundings to maintain law and order.

This disruption is particularly disheartening as it follows the much-anticipated parliamentary primary rerun of the New Patriotic Party in the Walewale constituency, which has once again ended in controversy. The election concluded inconclusively after the police seized the ballot boxes. Voting, which had already been delayed for several hours, wrapped up around 5 p.m. However, the sorting process was abruptly interrupted when the police removed the ballot boxes from the polling station. This marks the second time the Walewale primary has faced such disruption.

It is crucial for all parties involved to respect the democratic process and work towards ensuring a fair and transparent election. We urge for a thorough investigation into the incident and for appropriate actions to be taken to prevent such disruptions in future electoral processes.

We commend the Ghana Police Service for their prompt response in restoring order and maintaining security in Walewale. It is essential for all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law and promote peaceful participation in the electoral process.

As we await further developments, we hope for a swift resolution to this issue and a renewed commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process in Walewale and beyond.
