We are deeply saddened to report on a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday morning in Akropong, Atwima Nwabigya North District, where a vehicle plunged into the Owabi River, resulting in the loss of five precious lives. The Abuakwa Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
The vehicle, driven by Mrs. Helena Yason, was carrying her two children and two other passengers when it veered off the road and into the Owabi River. Mrs. Yason was on her way to drop her daughters off at school and had offered a ride to the two other passengers who were heading in the same direction.
The victims of this tragedy include Rita Agyare, a 41-year-old seamstress, Eric Boamah Gyasi, a 28-year-old plumber, and Helena's two daughters, Lordina Yason (10) and Doreen Yason (5). The bodies of all the victims, except for Doreen's, have been recovered from the river and taken to a morgue.
According to Mr. Kofi Nti, the assemblyman for the Akropong electoral area, Mrs. Yason, a Career Technology teacher, had been following her daily routine of taking her daughters to school when the accident occurred. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Vibe with registration number AS7403-21.
Efforts to retrieve Doreen's body are ongoing, and the Abuakwa Police have been notified and are actively conducting investigations into the incident.
