We have learned that the High Court in Accra has recently granted bail to Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, following their involvement in a tragic accident at East Legon which resulted in the loss of two lives.
Additionally, a third individual, Linda Bempah, described by the prosecution as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, which is owned by the brother of the suspect, has also been granted bail.
The arrest of Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of the suspected driver, took place on Tuesday and they were subsequently brought before the court on Wednesday. They have been charged with permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
During the presentation of the case's facts by the prosecution, it was revealed that both individuals admitted during questioning that they had allowed their child, who is the suspect in this case, to drive to the gym and other locations.
Furthermore, the prosecution disclosed in court that the keys to the Jaguar car, which is owned by Mouha Amoako, the suspect's mother, were given to Elrad by Linda Bempah, the third accused person.
In their appearance before the court on Wednesday, the legal representatives for the accused petitioned for bail, citing their fixed places of residence, gainful employment, societal standing, and their commitment to being available for trial. They also argued that the accused have no intention of committing further offenses while on bail or interfering with the ongoing investigations. Additionally, they urged the court to take into consideration that the charges brought against the accused are of a misdemeanor nature.
Although the prosecution did not oppose the bail application, they requested stringent bail conditions. After considering the arguments from both sides, the judge granted bail to each of the accused persons in the amount of GHc 50,000.
As this case continues to unfold, we must remember the importance of upholding legal processes and ensuring that justice is served. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the tragic events at East Legon.
