In a swift and intelligence-led operation on Monday, 15th July 2025, law enforcement officials successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt in Labadi, Accra. Acting on credible intelligence, the police uncovered a plot by five armed men to rob a foreign national in the Cantonments area. The suspects were reportedly lodging at a hotel in Labadi and preparing to execute their criminal plan.
The operation commenced as the suspects traveled toward their target location in a Toyota Yaris vehicle. However, upon detecting police surveillance, the suspects opened fire on the officers. Tragically, one officer sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and underarm during the exchange of fire. The officers promptly returned fire, injuring two of the suspects. Both injured suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital but were later pronounced dead.
The injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be responding well to care. His bravery and commitment to duty have been commended by his colleagues and the wider community. During the operation, law enforcement officials retrieved two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items from the scene. These items are expected to aid ongoing investigations into the activities of the suspects.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining three suspects who fled the scene during the confrontation. Police have assured the public that every effort is being made to bring the fugitives to justice and maintain public safety.
