The tragic murder of Stephen King Amoah, a 38-year-old Immigration Officer with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has left the nation in shock and grief. The case, which has drawn widespread attention, continues to unfold as investigators work tirelessly to uncover the full details surrounding his untimely death.

Mr. Amoah’s charred remains were discovered on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in a gutter near Abuom Junction, close to Kwabenya. His disappearance and subsequent murder have raised serious concerns about safety and justice, prompting calls for swift action from both law enforcement and the judiciary.

 Timeline of Events

Stephen King Amoah was last seen on the night of July 3, 2025, after leaving his residence at Ashongman Estate to meet a friend. According to reports, he had received photos of cash bundles from a contact—later identified as the suspect, Bright Aweh—who had promised to repay a debt during their meeting. Amoah’s family reported him missing on July 4 after he failed to return home and his phone became unreachable.

On July 6, police arrested Bright Aweh, believed to be the last person Amoah contacted before his disappearance. During interrogation, Aweh admitted to meeting the deceased and handing him GHC500,000 in cash. He claimed that GHC200,000 was intended for debt repayment while the remaining amount was entrusted to Amoah. However, inconsistencies in his story and the unclear origin of the money raised suspicions.

The investigation took a grim turn on July 9 when a severely burnt body was discovered near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate. Relatives later identified the remains as those of Stephen King Amoah, marking a devastating conclusion to the search for the missing officer.

 Evidence Uncovered

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has revealed disturbing evidence linked to the murder. Searches conducted at Bright Aweh’s residence uncovered blood stains in the living room, signs of a hasty clean-up, freshly sprayed walls, and an empty can of spray paint. Investigators also found a burnt woollen carpet, blood-stained camouflage fabric, and a fufu pestle soaked in blood at a second crime scene located about 100 meters from Aweh’s home.

Further forensic analysis was initiated after traces of blood were discovered in the suspect’s vehicle. DNA samples from Mr. Amoah’s mother and son are being used to confirm the identity of the remains.

 Legal Proceedings

Bright Aweh appeared before the Adabraka District Court on Friday, August 8, 2025. The court remanded him into police custody for two weeks, with the case adjourned to August 22, 2025. The court’s decision aligns with ongoing police investigations to establish a comprehensive account of the events leading to Mr. Amoah’s death.

Initially classified as a kidnapping case, the investigation has since been reclassified as murder due to the nature of evidence uncovered. The Adabraka District Court, which has broader jurisdiction, is now overseeing the case.

 Family’s Plea for Justice

The murder has left Mr. Amoah’s family devastated. Speaking to the media, his sister, Vesta Amoah, expressed their anguish and appealed for justice. “All that we’re asking is for justice to prevail. He was our lastborn. My mother is really broken; we are unable to eat or sleep. We’re full of pain. It’s always a foolish case anytime someone is dead; we pray this time round justice will prevail,” she lamented.

 Conclusion

The gruesome murder of Stephen King Amoah has highlighted the urgent need for justice and accountability in cases involving violent crime. As investigators continue to piece together evidence and pursue leads, it is imperative that due process is followed to ensure fairness and transparency throughout legal proceedings.

The nation stands united in mourning this tragic loss and hopes for justice that will bring closure and peace to Mr. Amoah’s grieving family. The outcome of this case will serve as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting its citizens from harm.
