In the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, a dramatic and intense gun battle unfolded at Gomoa Pomadze in Ghana's Central Region when armed robbers attempted to break into the Microfin Rural Bank. The incident, which occurred around 1:50 a.m., was met with swift and decisive action by the police, preventing the criminals from making away with any money.
According to reports from the Central Regional Police Command, a heavily armed gang stormed the bank premises under the cover of darkness. The assailants overpowered four security officers on duty, tying them up before proceeding to break into the facility. Their intentions were evidently to loot cash stored within the bank.
However, their plans were thwarted when a police patrol team arrived at the scene. Sensing the imminent threat posed by law enforcement, the gang opened fire on the officers, leading to a fierce exchange of gunshots. He revealed that several items were retrieved from the scene, including two empty BB cartridges, iron bars, a saw blade, cutting plates, new padlocks, a pump machine gun, cartridges, and a set of door lockers. These items are believed to have been tools intended for breaking into the bank’s vaults.
Despite significant damage to the bank's doors and windows, no money was stolen thanks to the timely intervention of the police. Additionally, the four security officers who had been tied up by the suspects were successfully rescued unharmed.
Following the incident, the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing gang. Chief Inspector Entie assured residents that patrols in the area will be intensified to clamp down on armed robbery activities and ensure public safety.
