In a shocking turn of events, the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of Kwabena Boateng, a 65-year-old security guard at the De-Bridge One District One Factory (1D1F) facility in Gomoa Akotsi, located in Ghana's Central Region. The incident has sent ripples of grief and outrage through the local community, as authorities continue their pursuit of justice.

 Arrests and Suspects

The police have identified two key suspects in the case: Samuel Larbie, a 28-year-old businessman, and Wisdom Sosu, a 32-year-old motor mechanic. These individuals are alleged to have been directly involved in the tragic crime. Additionally, two other suspects, Nabil Mohammed and Mahmoud Kardi, were apprehended for their role in purchasing stolen items linked to the crime. Among these items were copper wires, coils, and the deceased’s mobile phone.

The stolen electrical components, taken from two electricity transformers on the factory premises, are estimated to be worth GH₵250,000. The late Mr. Boateng’s Infinix Smart 8 mobile phone was also valued at GH₵1,800. Police investigations have revealed that these stolen goods were sold as part of an illicit operation.

Details of the Crime

The heinous act occurred on July 2, 2025, when Mr. Boateng confronted a gang attempting to steal cables from the factory's electricity transformers. In a brutal assault, the robbers suffocated him to death after tying his hands and legs with a rope and covering his head with a polythene bag. This marked the second armed attack on Mr. Boateng during his tenure as a security guard at the facility.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of security personnel stationed at critical infrastructure sites and highlights the need for enhanced measures to protect such individuals from harm.

Community Reaction and Police Efforts

The murder has sparked widespread anger and sorrow among residents of Gomoa Akotsi and surrounding areas. Many have expressed their condolences to Mr. Boateng’s family while calling for swift justice against those responsible for the crime.

Meanwhile, police efforts are ongoing to apprehend four additional suspects who remain at large. Authorities have assured the public that they are working tirelessly to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the community.

 The Larger Implications

This tragic event raises concerns about the security challenges faced by industrial facilities across Ghana. As part of the government’s flagship One District One Factory initiative, such facilities are crucial for economic growth and job creation. However, incidents like this highlight the need for robust security measures to safeguard employees, assets, and operations.

 Conclusion

The murder of Kwabena Boateng is a stark reminder of the risks faced by those who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property. As investigations continue and arrests are made, it is imperative that justice be served swiftly and comprehensively. The authorities must also take proactive steps to prevent such tragedies in the future by bolstering security protocols at industrial sites nationwide.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Boateng’s family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace as we collectively strive for a safer and more secure society.
