In a significant stride towards enhancing public safety, the Ghana Police Service has successfully apprehended ten suspected armed robbers in a meticulously planned operation spanning the Ashanti, Central, and Sunyani regions. This development marks a major breakthrough in the fight against organized crime, particularly targeting rural banking institutions.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, revealed that the arrests were the result of extensive intelligence analysis and strategic coordination. The gang had reportedly been targeting rural banks, posing a serious threat to financial institutions in these regions. The operation underscores the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

Among those arrested are Akwasi Adjie, David Obuobi, and Samuel Akwasi Djdan. However, one suspect, Kwabena Owusu Ansah, who is believed to be part of the criminal network, remains at large. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him.

Speaking at a press briefing, IGP Yohuno described the arrests as a pivotal moment in the country’s fight against armed robbery. "This operation demonstrates our unwavering dedication to strengthening public safety and protecting communities from criminal activities," he stated.

Following their capture, the suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters before being transported in a Black Maria for further processing. The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lydia Yaako Donkor, provided additional details on the operation’s success. She confirmed the retrieval of 12 firearms, including weapons previously stolen from slain officers—a grim reminder of the dangers posed by such criminal networks. Furthermore, significant sums of money were recovered during the operation, believed to be proceeds from their illicit activities.

The apprehended individuals are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days, where they will face justice for their alleged crimes. The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that any accomplices will be brought to book.

This operation serves as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and coordinated efforts in combating crime. It also highlights the importance of community cooperation and vigilance in ensuring public safety. The Ghana Police Service continues to urge citizens to report suspicious activities and provide information that could aid in preventing criminal acts.

As the nation commends this achievement, it is hoped that such proactive measures will deter future criminal activities and reinforce trust in law enforcement agencies. The commitment to creating safer communities remains a top priority for the Ghana Police Service, as they work tirelessly to uphold peace and security across the country.
