In a significant victory against the illegal drug trade, a joint operation by the Ghana Police Service and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the confiscation of 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg. The operation took place at Gbintri, near Nalerigu, in Ghana's North East Region on September 18, 2025.

The suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were apprehended after security personnel intercepted two trucks carrying the restricted pharmaceutical substance. The trucks, bearing registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14, had reportedly been loaded in Sankase, located in the Republic of Togo, and were en route to Gbintri when they were stopped by authorities.

A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabiik Anmain of the Public Affairs Unit and issued by the North East Regional Police Command on September 21, 2025, shed light on the details of the operation. According to the statement, a thorough search of the vehicles revealed that the Tramadol Hydrochloride was concealed among other goods in one of the trucks. The boxes have since been secured as evidence by law enforcement.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the consignment was intended for Mr. Moses Ayorik at Gbintri, who was reportedly tasked with delivering it to another contact in Gushegu. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. DSP Anmain further noted that efforts are underway to trace additional individuals who may be connected to this case.

Tramadol Hydrochloride, a powerful opioid painkiller, is classified as a controlled substance in Ghana due to its potential for misuse and addiction. The illegal distribution of such drugs poses serious risks to public health and safety, making this seizure a critical step in combating drug trafficking within the region.

The successful operation underscores Ghana's commitment to tackling organized crime and safeguarding its communities from the dangers associated with illicit drugs. Authorities have assured the public that they will continue to pursue those involved in the illegal drug trade and bring them to justice.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies in addressing complex challenges such as drug trafficking. As investigations progress, it is hoped that those responsible for orchestrating this operation will face the full weight of the law.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as authorities work to unravel the network behind this significant drug bust.
